Philanthropy
My local Charity of choice is Heart of Hospice Foundation. Click on to www.heartofhospice.org to learn more about this fascinating organization. I volunteer my time doing the "blameless stuff": things like copying, answering the phone, filing, or putting mailings together. I don’t feel qualified or emotionally prepared to actually sit at the bedside of a dying person, but I want to be part of this team. It’s a very important organization, and the staff does so much for so many people. Death touches everyone -- our friends, our family, and the community. When I am volunteering by working in the office I see all the little individual efforts going on constantly that mean so much to a person or family facing end of life issues.
I also give to this charity by hosting a girls nite out cocktail party, and my dear friend Kathy Shea, of Timeless Treasures (www.timelesstreasuresbykathyshea.com) showcases her vintage jewelry and gives 10% of her proceeds to the foundation. It's great fun, and the best way I know how to volunteer for a wonderful cause!
